Tri-Valley boys basketball head coach Todd McLoughlin enters his 11th season in Dresden looking to replace some key starters lost to graduation, but also heading into the 2018-19 cage campaign with a solid core of returning regulars looking to lead the way in the Scottie’s quest for a rare prep hoops 3-peat — a third consecutive Muskingum Valley League hardwood crown.
Last year’s team – led by departing four-year starter Jake McLoughlin and fellow seniors Greg Nolder, Dow Cameron, Cam Mercer, Garrett Lapp, and Tommy King – shared the conference crown with John Glenn with a 14-2 record, and overall mark of 16-7.
This year, Coach McLoughlin welcomes back returning letter winners, seniors Matt King and Kaden Lawler, and juniors Jack Lyall and Keaton Williams, who will get plenty of help from senior Garrett French, juniors Skye Bryan, Evan Arnold, Drew Richert and Dylan Williams, and freshman Luke Lyall and Ty Smith.
With a line-up that boasts no Scottie cager over 6’3”, an up-tempo game will be Tri-Valley’s ‘modus operandi’ this season, which combined with their traditional, solid Tri-Valley hardcourt defense, will be the roundball weapons the Dawgs will go into battle with – night in and night out – on Tri-Valley’s rigorous 22-game, 2018-19 schedule.
Tri-Valley opens the regular season on Friday night, November 30, with the same opponent they ended last year’s regular season with – Columbus Desales. The Stallions defeated the Scotties 47-42 in the 2017-18 regular season finale, then a week later at Logan, Tri-Valley opened their D-I Central District tournament play by falling to the host Chieftains, 74-38, despite leading 17-13 at the first break.
And for the 2018-19 season, it’s back to yet another challenging year of Division I, post season tourney action again for one of the smallest ‘big-schools’ in the Buckeye state — Tri-Valley.
But it’s first things first for the 2018-19 Scotties, who have their sights set on the one big thing they have control over for their upcoming cage campaign – a 3-peat, and third straight MVL boys basketball team title!
