Saturday afternoon, February 23 at Worthington Kilborne High School, the Tri-Valley gymnastics team competed in the OHSAA Gymnastics District Meet, finishing in a solid sixth place out of the 26 full teams competing, while TV standout sophomore gymnast Olivia Combs qualified for the State Gymnastics Meet, with her second place finish in the Vault.
Tri-Valley finished the meet in sixth place with a team total of 134.7 points – their highest team score of the season – in a very competitive team race for the top three spots. Thirty six schools were represented at the Central District Meet, with a total of 265 gymnasts competing. In the individual competition, more than 140 gymnasts competed in each event.
The top three teams qualified for the State Meet, while the top eight individual gymnasts in each event – Beam, Uneven Bars, Floor, and Vault – advanced to the State Individual Gymnastics Meet, which will be held on Saturday, March 2 at Hilliard Bradley High School.
Combs (pictured below) punched her ticket to the State Gymnastics Meet by scoring an outstanding 9.2 in the vault, good for second place overall in the event.
“We had a fantastic day competing,” said Tri-Valley gymnastics coach Jen Martin. “I’m so proud of all of the girls, and so delighted that we had Olivia qualify for the State Meet; we wish her well and will be there cheering her on.”
