Nine Tri-Valley High School wrestlers are moving on to District Meet action this weekend at Hilliard Darby High School, after qualifying performances at last weekend’s OHSAA Division I Sectional Meet at Marysville High School.
In the ten-team Sectional, Tri-Valley finished in fourth place with 157.5 points, with Mount Vernon coming in third place with 162 points, host school Marysville, runnerup with 229 points, and Dublin Coffman first with 291.5 points.
Fourth place individual spots and up earned District berths, and it will be the same fourth place and up scenario this weekend at the D-I Hilliard Darby District Meet, where the Scottie wrestlers listed below, will by vying for a spot at the holy grail of high school wrestling, the OHSAA State Meet, March 7-9 in Columbus at the Schottenstein Center on the campus of the Ohio State University.
Leading the way for Coach Jon Hardman’s Scottie wrestlers is senior matman Sky Wisecarver, (pictured below) who wrestled to a Sectional title at the 106 pound weight class with a pin over Spencer Parker-Gordon from Worthington Kilborne High School.
Earning runnerup, second place spots in the championship round and moving onto District action for the Scotties were: sophomore Cullen VanRooyen, who was decisioned by Dublin Coffman’s Davante Cooper 10-8 at the 120 pound weight class; Scottie sophomore (and Muskingum Valley League champion) Joseph Eckleberry, who lost an 8-4 decision at the 126 pound weight class to Dublin Coffman’s Ismael Ayoub; and Tri-Valley junior matman Dylan Hnes, who dropped a 12-3 major decision at the 160 pound weight class to Aaron Morton from Westerville South.
Earning fourth place spots and moving onto District action for the Scotties were: sophomore Karter Jones at the 138 pound weight class, junior A.J. Collins at the 182 pound weight class, senior Sawyer Hanby at the 195 pound weight class, and sophomore Seth Schneider at the 285 pound weight class.
Heading to the District Meet as well as a ninth qualifier – originally as an alternate – will be Scottie sophomore wrestler Andy Hill at the 220 pound weight class.
