The Tri-Valley boys golf team has had a busy first half of the season, evidenced by their August action on the links.
(Unique to the normal prep fall sports schedules – whose respective season openers coincide with the beginning of the school year – boys and girls high school golf teams play a good portion of their matches during the month of August.)
Currently sporting a sterling 10-1 conference mark, Coach Aron Dotson’s varsity Scottie golf team’s top highlight of the 2019 season so far was back on August 16, on their home Vista golf course turf, when they defeated defending Muskingum Valley League champ John Glenn, 155-163 in a dual match. (Way back on August 3, the Scotties finished runner-up to JG in the annual MVL pre-season tournament, handing TV it’s lone conference loss of the 2019 season.)
In the big Muskie win, TV’s Drew Johnson led the winners with a solid nine-hole round of 37, followed closely by Owen Campbell’s 39, Brennon Mitchell’s 39 (which included a rare double-eagle albatross), and a steady 40 from Braden Smith.
In Tri-Valley’s most recent MVL links action – back on Friday, August 23 – the visiting Scotties defeated host New Lexington 157-174 on the Panther’s home Perry County Country Club layout. Drew Johnson and Braden Smith shared medalist honors for the winners with scores of 38, with Brennon Mitchell (40) and Jack Lyall and Owen Campbell (41) close behind.
Coach Dotson’s conference co-leaders tee it off again on Saturday, August 31, competing at the annual Dover Invitational, then jump back into Muskingum Valley League play on Thursday, September 5 when they host the Philo Electric golf squad on the Scottie’s home Vista golf course layout.
Here’s a look at other TVHS varsity golf action during the month of August:

Aug. 20: The host Scottie linksters bested visiting Crooksville 154-162 at Vista golf course, led by Luke Lyall (37), Drew Johnson (38), Brennon Mitchell (39), and Braden Smith (40).

TV’s second place total of 336 saw Braden Smith lead the way for the Scotties with a solid 18-hole round of 82, followed by Drew Johnson’s 84, Owen Campbell’s 85, and a score of 85, turned in by Brennon Mitchell.
Aug 13: Another solid runnerup finish at the Licking Valley Invitational, played at The Virtues golf club (former Longaberger golf club). Leading the way for the Dawgs at the LV Invite was Drew Johnson with a stellar round of 73, with Owen Campbell (84), and brother Jack and Luke Lyall’s 87 rounding out TV’s top scorers for their 331 total.
