First-year coach Sarah Meadows gathered her hearty band of cross-country runners onto the bus early Saturday morning, August 31 and headed for neighboring Licking County to compete at the annual Granville Invitational, held on the plush, spacious and historic grounds of the Bryn Du Mansion.
While the varsity numbers were small, the runners gave it all they had in both the respective boys and girls races.
On the girls side, the Lady Dawgs were one runner short of fielding an official scoring team, but saw four runners compete. TV junior Riley Moore (pictured below) led the Lady Dawgs with her 46th place in the 90 runner strong field and time of 23:03 on the 3.1 mile layout. She was followed by sophomore Josey Johnson (50th – 23:31), and senior sisters Skyley and Starley Jacobs, who posted times of (23:35 – 52nd place), and (24:14 – 62nd place) respectively.
In the girls ‘Open’ race, the Lady Dawgs had three runners toe the starting line in the 167 runner strong field, and were led by Ava Harris ( 26:04 – 62nd), Madison Marple (28:56 – 120th), and Anna Thomas (29:57 – 134th).
On the boys side, Scotties senior distance ace Ryan Meadows (pictured below) raced to a Granville Invitational title, crossing the finishing line first in a field of 117 on the challenging 3.1 mile trek in a time of 16:50, besting runnerup Garrett Miller from Licking Heights, who posted a time of 17:07. Meadows was followed by teammates Ty Shawger (19:18 – 61st), Brannon Miller (20:23 – 86th), Luke Wilkinson (20:47 – 90th), and Arpen Parekh (21:29 – 100th).
Tri-Valley cross-country competes again – this time for a rare home meet – on Tuesday, September 3, when they host Morgan and Maysville on their 3.1 mile home course, which starts and finishes at Dresden’s River Park. Racing gets underway at 5:00 p.m. On Saturday, September 7, the Scottie harriers compete at the annual McGowan Invitational, held at Watkins Memorial High School.
