Boys Varsity Golf · Scottie golfers one step away from State Tourney, after runner-up spot at Sectionals; TV’s Drew Johnson earns tournament medalist honors

Coach Aron Dotson’s Tri-Valley golf team is just a step away from qualifying for the state golf tournament, after Monday’s runnerup performance at the OHSAA D-I Sectional Tournament, held at the Cambridge Country Club.

Three teams advanced to next Tuesday’s District Tournament, to be held in South Zanesville at EachleSticks golf course, where just one team – and one individual – will advance to the OHSAA State Golf Tournament in two weeks in Columbus at the Ohio State University’s Scarlet course.

The Scotties – led by Sectional Tournament medalist Drew Johnson – turned in a team total score of 332, tying for the runnerup spot in the six-team field with New Philadelphia.  Dover captured the team title with a score of 312.

Tri-Valley’s Drew Johnson (pictured below) earned his second straight tournament medalist honor, (he was medalist at last week’s MVL Tourney) as the talented Scottie junior linkster fired a 72 on the challenging 18-hole Cambridge Country Club layout.  Rounding out the other scoring Scotties that contributed to the runnerup finish were: Luke Lyall (85), Jack Lyall (86), Brennon Mitchell (89), and Braden Smith (92).
