Boys Varsity Soccer · Scotties claim fourth straight MVL boys soccer title with 3-2 John Glenn win

First-year TV boys soccer coach Rod Gibson and his Scottie team boarded the bus Tuesday afternoon, Oct. 8 and headed east to New Concord to face the host John Glenn Muskies in the conference finale that would decide the 2019 Muskingum Valley League soccer crown.

And after the ‘turf dust’ had settled – literally – on the Muskies brand new turf field after 80 minutes of play, the Scotties had some extra luggage to pack on the bus on the return trip to Dresden – an MVL trophy!

Scottie sophomore Oliver Oseguera’s goal with just four minutes remaining in the contest broke a 2-2 tie and turned out to be the game-winner, as Tri-Valley earned their fourth straight Muskingum Valley League boys soccer title with a 3-2 win over the host Muskies.

TV seniors Brady Baker and Dustin Watts each found the net for the Scottie’s other two scores, while Baker also was credited with a pair of assists, and Nico Repuyan an assist as well.  Scottie senior goalkeeper Tyler McClellan was credited with four saves in goal as well.

“Last night was an exciting game to say the least,” stated a happy Coach Rod Gibson.

“Winning the MVL means a lot to these boys, especially the seniors; to be able to say that you have won your league all four years is something that few athletes can do,” continued Coach Gibson.

“While we are proud of what we have accomplished, we can’t settle for it. This team is something special, and the potential is there for them to make a deep run in the tournament. We have to continue to grow as a team and a program and good things will happen.”

“We face Marietta next in the regular season finale and then the tournament begins. It was said to the boys last night that every tournament game means something, because at the end of the night, it is either our season or the other team’s season that will be ending, so go out and play every game to the best of your abilities!”

“It is a sobering thought, and maybe a little intimidating to think about….but that’s what makes tournament time so exciting,” concluded Coach Gibson.
