Boys Varsity Wrestling · Scottie wrestlers busy on the mats as regular season winds down; MVL Meet set for Feb. 22 at Crooksville

It’s been a busy past few weeks for the Tri-Valley wrestling team, according to head coach Jon Hardman.

“The wrestling Scotties fared well at three locations recently,” states Coach Hardman.  “We brought home hardware from the River View Junior Varsity Tournament, with the following athletes enjoying success:” Pictured below are: Ethan Jenkins (3rd – 170), Jake McIntire (2nd place – 132), Collin Smith (1st place at 285), Emre Sparks (1st place at 152 lbs.), David Coleman (2nd – 170), and Andrew Rutherford (3rd – 126).  Not pictured is Josey Boyd (2nd place – 138). photo submitted

“Some of our squad,” Coach Hardman continues, “went to the Utica Invitational and made the podium.”  They were:  (left to right) Kyler Gabbard (3rd – 138), Dylan Hines (2nd – 170), Jake McIntire (2nd – 126), and Curtis Huy (3rd – 182). photo submitted

“Finally, nine of our Scottie wrestlers competed at the 32-team Josh Hepner Memorial Tournament at Austintown Fitch High School.  This proved to tbe the toughest tournament of the season, but five of our Dawgs came away with awards.”  They were:  Joseph Eckelberry (5th – 132), Connor McIntire (6th – 152), Gyle Bradshaw (7th – 182), AJ Collins (5th – 220), and Seth Schneider (5h – 285).  photo submitted

Some wrestling stats of note for the varsity Scottie matmen are as follows:  Senior Tyler Crawford is currently ranked #22 in the state in D-II at the 120 pound weight class; Junior Joseph Eckelberry is currently ranked #17 in the state in D-II at the 132 pound weight class; Sophomore Isaiah Armstrong is currently ranked #29 in the state in D-II at the 138 pound weight class; and Senior A.J. Collins is currently ranked #18 in the state in D-II at the 220 pound weight class.

Notable won/loss records thus far in the 2019-20 season for the wrestling Scotties include: Tyler Crawford, with a 26-12 record, Garrett Folden (17-14), Jake McIntire (11-9), Joseph Eckelberry (34-5), Isaiah Armstrong (30-7), Alex Niner (21-16), Spencer Campbell (9-6), Connor McIntire (26-9), Dylan Hines (20-12), Curtis Huy (15-13), Gyle Bradshaw (15-7), Andy Hill (21-9), A.J. Collins (32-6), and Seth Schneider (33-9).

With the regular season ending Muskingum Valley League Meet still two weeks away – on February 22 at Crooksville – the Scottie wrestlers still have plenty of action left, including the Freshman All-State Individual Meet at Dublin Scioto on Saturday, February 8, and – on the same day – the OHSAA Regional Team Duals at Philo High School.

Good luck to Coach Hardman and the Scottie wrestlers – the rest of the way!

Pictured below are the nine Scottie senior wrestlers – with their parents – who were recognized and honored back on Thursday night, January 30 in Dresden at Tri-Valley High School, prior to the Scotties tri-match with visiting Philo and Licking Valley, in front of large crowd of appreciative Scottie wrestling fans.  Congratulations to Seniors Spencer Campbell, Andrew Rutherford, Tyler Crawford, Dylan Hines, Gyle Bradshaw, A.J. Collins, Curtis Hu, Kyler Gabbard, and Connor McIntire. Thanks for the memories fellas, and good luck in your future endeavors!
