Coach Kurt Kaufman’s No. 1 seeded Tri-Valley girls basketball team advanced a step further on the post-season tournament trail, Wednesday night, Feb. 19 in Dresden, with their 81-15 victory over Meadowbrook, the No. 18 seed.
The victory sends the Lady Dawgs to the Division II, East District upper bracket Sectional title game vs. East Liverpool, to be played on Saturday, Feb. 22 in Dresden at The Dawg House, with a 2:00 p.m. tip-off.
East Liverpool (10-13) defeated Claymont on Wednesday night – 55-51 – to earn their shot at the top-seeded Lady Dawgs. The Lady Potters enter the Dawg House as the 12th seed.
In the Meadowbrook win, all ten Tri-Valley players cracked the scoring column in the win to help the Lady Dawgs to their 21st overall victory on the 2019-20 season, vs. just three losses for the MVL co-champs.
The hosts jumped out to a 37-1 lead at the first break over the outmatched – but hustling and competitive – Lady Colts.
The Howe sisters – senior Kyndal (8 points) and freshman Lexi (9 points) – accounted for 17 of their team’s first frame points, with senior Audrey Spiker adding six counters on three layups.
Tri-Valley put up 28 more points on the scoreboard in the second stanza, to take a 55-9 halftime lead, then utilized the OHSAA 35-plus point second half lead, mandated running clock to speed along in the final two quarters for the final 81-15 tally.
Lexi Howe’s 14 points led four Lady Dawg double figure scorers, to include Riley Tracy (13), Janie McLoughlin (11), and Kyndal Howe (10), with senior guards Audrey Spiker and Lauren King contributing eight and seven points respectively as well. Lynsey Dudley’s five points led the Lady Colts.
